Why Choose Terra Vida Academy?
Terra Vida Academy Eco-Campus: A Living Model of Regenerative Education
Terra Vida Academy’s eco-campus is more than a location, it is an immersive educational environment intentionally designed to demonstrate what a sustainable and resilient future can look like. The Vernonia Springs property is situated on a 28 acre forestland private park in the foothills of the Northwest Oregon coast range. The campus serves as a hands-on learning hub where regenerative agriculture, ecological restoration, natural building, and wellness-based environmental education converge. Every element of the property is crafted to model real-world solutions that can be replicated in homes, communities, and organizations across the region.
At the heart of Terra Vida Academy’s mission is the belief that meaningful environmental change begins with direct experience. The eco-campus provides that experience at every turn. Students, volunteers, and visiting groups step into an operational landscape where food-growing systems, composting infrastructure, nature-based classrooms, and low-impact living facilities function together as a cohesive, regenerative system. Participants do not simply observe sustainable practices—they practice them, gaining skills that build confidence and spark long-term stewardship.
A Campus Designed for Impact
The eco-campus includes demonstration gardens, forest learning sites, natural building structures, an outdoor kitchen, and multiple wellness spaces that support enjoyable and beneficial programming. Each component is intentionally developed to:
- Model regenerative land management and climate-resilient design
- Support hands-on workshops in natural building, ecological literacy, and sustainable living
- Provide experiential opportunities for volunteers, youth groups, nonprofits, and community partners
- Strengthen environmental awareness through immersive, place-based learning
- Showcase practical systems—rainwater collection, composting, off-grid energy, soil improvement, habitat stewardship—that participants can bring back to their own communities
Our Founder's Journey
Jeff Walton founded Terra Vida Academy with a vision to create an educational environment where people could learn sustainable living by engaging directly with the land. His journey into regenerative design began in 2012 after earning his Permaculture Design Certificate through Cascadia—a turning point that reshaped how he viewed ecology, community, and long-term stewardship.
Inspired by whole-systems thinking, Jeff began transforming what is now the Vernonia Spring 28-acre private park in the Pacific Northwest Oregon coast range into a living demonstration site for regenerative agriculture, natural building, and environmental resilience. Over the years, he developed food-growing systems, composting infrastructure, outdoor classrooms, and nature-based gathering spaces that reflect the values and practices he teaches.
Drawing on his entrepreneurial background and his commitment to hands-on learning, Jeff shaped Terra Vida Academy into a place where students, volunteers, and visiting groups can explore practical skills that strengthen both personal and ecological resilience. His work bridges education and action, offering a model for how communities can reconnect with nature and cultivate solutions for a sustainable future.
